Canoeing

Today we canoed from Patch Bridge to Splatt Bridge and back on the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal. It's a pretty quiet stretch of waterway and both boys were very good at sitting still in the middle of the boats. Toby went in with Martin while I had Robin, I started out in the blue canoe in the foreground and came back in the easier to paddle but significantly wetter yellow one.

We must have done about 2.5 hours with a break for lunch. The journey back was much harder as it was into the wind and against the flow. By my reckoning from the map the round trip was just under 4 miles. My shoulders are pretty achey but worse is the fact that we all caught the sun (mainly on our right hand sides). Most of the time it was cloudy but that was clearly deceptive and of course the light reflects up off the water.

More pics (but none of us actually in the boats, it was just too wet) here.
