Worth the climb

Or maybe not, if you look closely at Robin and Toby's faces!

We had a bad start to the day when we tried to walk to Mwnt beach and were blocked by cows in one direction and dogs in another, but we gave up and arrived in the van just in time to eat lunch before heading down to the beach.

We found ourselves a space on the relatively crowded beach. Robin was a bit put out that some children had completely dammed the stream so we dug a huge hole to get down to water and eventually the dam was breached anyway. We all had a paddle in the rather chilly water and Martin was even brave enough to swim. Robin and I discovered a little inlet between the rocks that you could wade to and get up out of the water.

After a couple of hours people were damming the stream again and it seemed a good idea to take Robin elsewhere. We got ice lollies at the top of the steps and then went for a walk up the hill beside the van. I'd started up there with the boys while Martin was cooking lunch but it was steep going and they weren't keen.

Robin was no keener when we set off this time on the path round the other side of the hill, by the sea. He was petrified and made sure everyone knew. When passersby told us there were dolphins to be seen up ahead though I was determined we'd catch up with Martin and Toby.

It was fantastic to see the dolphins, even at a distance. Every now and then one would arch up out of the water. I joined the other three at the summit and discovered Robin hadn't even seen any, he was too busy being scared. Once he'd calmed down a bit, he too managed to spot them and was quite impressed. Getting him down was fun but I managed.

Back at the campsite there was a lovely sunset. The boys played out with some of the children from the other pitches.
